What are the presets on your Air Fryer actually for?

What are the presets on your Air Fryer actually for?

It’s one of the most popular questions fired at our helpdesk … so we’ve written a whole blog about it.

The Clear Mini glass air fryer has four handy preset buttons which give you a quick-start on most foods. But when should you be using each one?

Four styles of air frying

Firstly, it’s important to know that the four functions don’t actually function differently, in a technical sense.

Whatever setting you pick, the air fryer heats up in the same way. In the Clear Mini, the heating element is located inside the top, with a fan and a thermostat to keep the heat steady and evenly circulated.

In fact, air frying is just another term for convection cooking – it’s very similar to an electric fan oven, on a smaller scale.

So why do we label the presets using different names?

On the Clear Mini, we have four function buttons. We’ve used traditional cooking terms to help you pick the best one for your food.

Roast is a high temperature, when you want maximum browning.

Bake has a lower temperature for slower, steadier cooking.

Reheat is a middling temp, for reheating your sausage roll or leftover quiche without getting them soggy.

And Air Fry allows your food to cook right through without browning too much on the outside (but staying crispy, thanks to the hot air!).

Use them as your starting points…

The preset programmes can be adjusted after you select them (so you can add time when needed).

But remember they don’t account for the number or weight of your ingredients, or even the way you like things cooked (crunchy or tender?). So consider these as starting points for cooking different types of foods.

If you have cooking instructions for a traditional oven, convert them to air fryer guidelines using the 20/20 rule (reduce the temp by 20°C and the time by 20%).

Always start checking early, and use the glass drawer to monitor your dinner!
