Do you need an instant tap that reaches 100 degrees?
Instant boiling taps like Quooker operate at 100°C, just like kettles – the temperature we’re used to using for our tea.
But K&W instant taps produce water at 98°C. We’re not going higher, now or ever.
Why did we choose this instead of making instant boiling taps?
98°C is safer
When water reaches 100°C it’s more vigorous, bubbling and producing steam. This causes a build-up of pressure, which requires careful management – especially in a closed unit that lives under your sink.
Instead, we have built a non-pressurised system which keeps the water at a more manageable 98°C. It’s safer, with less steam at the point of pouring, and lower risk of scalding.
So that’s the most important reason for sticking at 98°C.
98°C is the perfect temp for tea… and other things
Boiling water can scald your tea leaves. Did you know that the UK Tea and Infusions Association says the perfect cup of black tea should be brewed with water at 90-98°? For green tea, 75-80°C is the sweet spot!
You shouldn’t pour boiling water over coffee, either. If you’re using fresh ground coffee in a cafetiere, add water at 90-96°C. That’s easy with our 4-in-1 instant tap: you just select 95° before dispensing.
Are you filling up to-go? 90-98°C is better for travel mugs and hot water bottles, too. With less steam and pressure inside the container, it’s safer to hold or transport.
So why would you choose a boiling instant tap?
We’ve thought about this long and hard. The only time we’d miss boiling water is when cooking pasta, rice or vegetables – but at 98°C, water will reach boiling in your saucepan within minutes. It’s safer to carry over to the stove, too!
