Air Fryer Gammon with Honey and Mustard
So we all know that the Clear Mini glass air fryer is awesome for snacks. But have you tried cooking a roast in it? You read that right. Here’s how you can make an air fryer gammon joint!
Choosing a gammon joint for the air fryer
Your air fryer is ideal for roasting those small, supermarket gammon joints which are wrapped in net ready to cook. Pick up a joint that’s about 800g – it’s the perfect size for 2-3 people, or a few sandwiches during the week.
Try it plain or glazed…
In this recipe, we slice away the fat and add a sticky glaze, which makes a well-flavoured joint for eating hot or warm with salad, with jacket potatoes, or cold in sandwiches.
The hot air inside the air fryer gives the fat on the outside of the gammon joint a SUPER crunchy finish. So you could also serve it plain – complete with crackly crust – accompanied by some air fryer vegetables and gravy! Just skip the steps for the glaze and remove the gammon from your air fryer after step 3.
Either way, this deserves to go into your meal planning next week.
Air Fryer Gammon Joint with Honey & Mustard
Serves 2-3
1 small gammon joint (800g)
2 tsp honey
2 tsp wholegrain mustard
1 – Take the plastic wrap off your supermarket gammon joint (but keep the netting in place).
2 - Place the crisper rack inside the glass drawer and place your gammon joint on top.
3 – Cook at 200°C for 25 minutes.
4 – Then reduce the temperature to 160°C and cook for a further 15-30 minutes. It’s best to use a meat thermometer to check for doneness and prevent overcooking: the internal temperature should be 75°C.
4 – If you want to add the glaze, now’s the time. Remove the gammon joint carefully onto a plate and cut away the netting. Slice away most of the fat on top and score criss-cross lines into the top and sides. Mix your honey and mustard in a cup and then spoon it on top of the gammon so that it dribbles down the sides.
5 – Cook for a further 5 minutes to set the glaze.
SERVING
1 - If you want to serve this as a roast, put it on a plate to rest, covered with foil, and then cook your accompaniment (air fryer roast potatoes are good). The gammon will stay warm for a while.
2 – If you want to slice it for sandwiches, leave the joint to cool for as long as possible. It’s easier to get those deli-thin slices when it’s cold!
TIPS
- 🍴 We found that the 800g gammon joint was the perfect size to sit inside the Clear Mini glass air fryer, with clearance around the edges for good heat circulation.
- 🍴 Serve with perfect air fryer chips for a gastro-pub lunch!
- 🍴 Cooking your gammon joint in the air fryer saves money on using the oven. But you can also simmer it in the slow cooker (check pack instructions for cook time) and then glaze and finish it in your air fryer. Try using apple juice or coke in your slow cooker for a juicy joint!
- 🍴 You can freeze the sliced ham once it’s cool: use an airtight container or Ziploc freezer bag and eat within a month. It defrosts quickly in the fridge and it’s brilliant for sandwiches.
