How do I use the Clear Mini Glass Air Fryer - is there a user manual?
Check the back of your Clear Mini. There’s a QR code which takes you straight to the user manual PDF. You can also see it here!
How do glass air fryers work?
Hot air is circulated 360° around the food, using a fan, just like an electric oven. But it’s a smaller area, so it costs less to heat. For example, the Clear Mini Air Fryer uses 1200W of energy compared to 3000W for an electric oven, so it costs 60% less to run.
Why is everyone getting rid of air fryers?
Ooh, controversial! Many people have been getting rid of air fryers because of the health concerns surrounding non-stick toxins. Non-stick coatings used inside some airfryers can break down, producing microplastics which go into our food, and have been linked to certain health risks.
But there's good news! The Clear Mini is completely free from non-stick coatings - we've used glass to make an aesthetic and safe cooking vessel (that's also super easy to clean).
What is the first thing you should make in an air fryer?
Everyone has their own favourite. Want a recommendation? We love air fryer fries! They're so simple and fun.
1 - Peel and cut 1-2 potatoes into fries (no thicker than your little finger).
2 - Put them into a pan of boiling, salted water and blanch for 5 minutes.
3 - Drain in a colander and let them steam dry.
4 - Dribble with 1tsp oil and toss in the colander, then put in the air fryer (on the rack) in a single layer.
5 - Air fry at 200 degrees C for 8-14 minutes (cooking time depends on size of your fries!).
How much can you save with a glass air fryer?
The oven is one of the most energy-hungry appliances in our homes. An electric oven is typically rated between 2000-3000W. The Clear Mini Air Fryer is rated 1200W, which means it uses 60% less electricity.
This means that a 1200kW air fryer costs 32.6p an hour (assuming electricity costs 27.21p per kWh), while a 3000W oven costs 81.3p for an hour.
It also cooks food more quickly, so you could soon recover the purchase cost in energy savings!
Do I need to preheat an air fryer?
Some airfryer recipes do ask you to preheat the air fryer - it's helpful for fast-cooking things like steak or halloumi.
But don’t worry - it will be quicker than preheating your normal oven. The Clear Mini Air Fryer takes around 3 minutes to preheat to 180°C!
Do I need to use oil when cooking food in an air fryer?
Yes, in most cases it's best, although you can use less oil to cook food in an air fryer. The oil helps the food to get golden and crispy.
What happens if you don't use oil in an air fryer?
You can cook without oil in your air fryer - nothing bad will happen! You might just find your food is less crunchy than you'd like.
A small amount of oil helps food to become more crispy. That's because the oil reaches a high temperature, facilitating the Maillard reaction, which produces browning.
If you want to try your favourite foods without extra oil, we'd encourage you to try it and sample the results!
Do you have to put oil in the air fryer with chips?
If you're making homemade chips - using parboiled potatoes - then we recommend using a little bit of oil to coat the chips before air frying. They'll taste nicer!
If you're cooking frozen chips in the air fryer, there's no need to add oil.
Where do I put oil in an air fryer?
❌ Don't put any oil directly into the glass drawer.
✔️ Do put oil on your food - lightly rubbing it over steak or salmon, or mixing it with your chickpeas or chips - before placing it onto the rack.
Is it safe to put a glass air fryer on the worktop?
Yes, it’s safe. The Clear Mini Air Fryer has a heat-resistant base so it can be placed on your worktop. Make sure that it has space around it, for ventilation. We don’t advise putting it directly beneath a kitchen cupboard, as condensation can form.
How much can fit in an air fryer?
Depends on the airfryer model! The K&W Clear Mini Air Fryer has a capacity of 3L. In food-speak, that means it can accommodate a box of wings, a ready-made quiche, or 2 medium jacket potatoes.
What is the 20 20 rule for air fryers?
The 20 20 rule for airfrying helps you to work out cooking times. It's useful when you're cooking something that only has directions for conventional ovens on the pack!
Take the cooking time and temp for a conventional oven, then reduce the temperature by 20 degrees, and the time by 20%. So 200 degrees C becomes 180 degrees C and 20 minutes becomes 16 minutes.
Can I put tin foil in an air fryer?
You can put tin foil or baking paper into the air fryer: cut them to size and place on the crisping rack. But make sure there's always food on top of paper or foil, otherwise they'll blow around in the hot air and can touch the heat element.
How do you clean a glass air fryer?
Some air fryers feature non-stick drawers which must be cleaned, in-situ, using dish soap. But our innovative glass drawer can go directly into the dishwasher (or sink, if you’re old-school). You can use a non-scratch scrubbing pad (we ❤️ Scrub Daddy).
What can’t be cooked in an air fryer?
There’s a fan moving the hot air, which means that light ingredients, like croutons, popcorn or toast, can be blown around and fail to cook properly. Also not ideal: ‘wet’ dishes like rice or sauces, including chilli, pilaf, and pasta. As a rule, choose ingredients and foods that won’t create a lot of condensation or dribble on the bottom of the drawer.
Can I cook frozen food in an air fryer?
Yes and we love it for this. A Sunday morning croissant, a few mozzarella bites for movie night, or some frozen chicken wings... heck, yeah.
Basically, you can use your air fryer for anything you'd usually cook in the oven.
- Chicken nuggets
- Frozen waffles
- Frozen croissants
- Frozen mini pizzas
- Frozen fries
- Frozen burgers
- Frozen fish
Refer to the oven cooking times and start checking a few minutes sooner -- for example, reduce 20 mins to 16, or 9 minutes to 6. It's easy to watch your food using the glass drawer :)

What oil should I use in an air fryer?
To get that perfect golden finish, use oil with a high smoke point. Vegetable or sunflower oil are great - but avoid the non-stick sprays, which contain emulsifiers. You can fill your own bottle with oil for easy reapplication to the food.
What’s the secret to cooking great food in a glass air fryer?
Experimenting is the best way to cook food that’s perfect for you and your family. (If you discover any hacks, share them with us!) But these tips will get you started like a pro:
#1: Make sure the food is all cut to a similar size.
#2: Don’t overfill your air fryer. This limits heat circulation and prevents all the edges from getting nice and crispy.
#3: Experiment. Experience has taught us that spices and seasoning should be mixed with a little oil before being tossed with your ingredients - otherwise the spices end up at the bottom of the cooking drawer :)
#4: Buy useful tools: get a pair of tongs and a meat thermometer. It’s faster to turn food with tongs, rather than whatever-utensil-is-nearest-to-hand (or your fingers, ouch). A meat thermometer will help you to get the timings just right.
