Can you fit an instant hot tap in your kitchen?

We’d love to say YES! But the truth is that you’re going to need to check off a few things first.

(Don’t worry – buying a brand new sink isn’t one of them!)

1 – Check your water pressure

Most water systems are suitable for installing an instant tap. But a quick check will help you to be certain.

Water pressure is a measure of how fast water runs through your taps, and you’ll need water pressure of at least 1 bar to install an instant tap.

 1 bar means that water flows out of the tap at 10 litres per minute. It’s easy to do a quick test!

1          To test properly, make sure you don’t have water running anywhere else in the home or garden. (We all know what happens when someone flushes while you’re showering.)

2          Fetch a 1 or 2 litre jug and place it under your tap.  It should have measurements on it – if the numbers are small, add a bit of tape to mark the 1 litre line!

3          It’s helpful to ask another person to time the water while you switch on the tap. Using a stopwatch (or your phone), time the number of seconds it takes to dispense 1 litre.

4          1 bar means 10 litres per minute, which is 1 litre in 6 seconds. If your timing is longer, you have low water pressure. But if you get 1 litre in 6 seconds or less, your pressure is OK.

2 - Check your available space

You’ll be pleased to hear that this test is simpler.  

All you need is a tape measure and notepad! Check the dimensions of your chosen tank(s).  Our standard tank measures 210mm x 210mm x 327mm. They’re designed to fit into regular (600mm) kitchen cupboards.

3 – Get an installation quote

You don’t have to install a whole new kitchen to add an instant tap to your setup! 

Nope… you can retro-fit an instant tap under the sink in your kitchen. Installation takes about half a day and should cause very little disruption – you might just need to rehome the Fairy Liquid.
