3 easy snacks to make in your air fryer
What are we watching? Can’t agree on anything new. It’ll probably be Schitts’ Creek again. So if, like Moira Rose, you also don’t know how to fold cheese, you’ll love our toasted sandwich recipe. No folding needed. There’s also Beef Nachos for football matches or wine tastings, and the classic party snack – sausage rolls! Who knew you could do all this in your air fryer? (it was us, we knew.)
#1 Solo Beef Nachos
Serve with Netflix and the good blanket.
100g beef mince
1-2tsp Fajita seasoning
30g plain Tortilla Chips
30g grated cheddar
2tbsp ready-made salsa
Optional: soured cream, guacamole, chopped cherry tomatoes, chopped spring onions.
1 - Preheat a frying pan and sauté the beef mince with the seasoning for 5-10 minutes, or until cooked.
2 – Tip the tortilla chips into the baking dish. Spoon the beef over the top, followed by the salsa and cheddar.
3 – Bake at 180 degrees for 4-5 minutes. (Look through the glass to see when the cheese is bubbly.)
4 – Remove to cool, and dress up with extras.
#2 Home-rolled Sausage Rolls
Easy to buy, but also easy to make – and everyone loves them. Try making them with a flavoured sausage from the butcher. You need these for your next movie night.
Disclaimer: you need to be OK with sticking your hands inside a sausage. Let’s go!
INGREDIENTS
320g puff pastry (pre-rolled)
200g (4-6) of your favourite sausages (can be veggie)
1 egg, beaten
METHOD
1 – Squeeze the sausage meat out of the skins and into a bowl. Season with salt and pepper.
2 – Unroll half of the pastry sheet and cut into two long rectangles. Use your hands to shape the sausage meat into two narrow sausages and place one along the centre of each pastry piece.
3 – Brush edges with egg and roll up. Use a sharp knife to cut each log into 3cm sausage rolls. Brush tops lightly with egg.
4 – Arrange 3-4 on the baking rack and bake at 180 degrees for 19 minutes.
MAKE THEM VEGAN: Most ready-made puff pastry is vegan. Try using a vegan sausage, like the classic Linda McCartney ones, and brush the pastry with plant-based milk substitute.
#3 The Toasted Sandwich, Customised
Can you cook toasted sandwiches in an air fryer? Heck YEAH. And you SHOULD. Add sliced onions, mustard, spinach, sundried tomatoes, chorizo, mozzarella, pastrami, pesto or any combination. You could use artisan bread or panini. Now we’re hungry. And we want to know what you put in yours. Report back
Here’s our basic template:
2 slices bread
2tbsp butter
1-2tbsp chilli, tomato, or caramelised onion chutney
& as much grated cheddar as you think can fit in (or use a mixture of mozz and cheddar).
1 – Liberally butter the OUTsides of each slice. (Messy.)
2 – Inside, spread one or both pieces with chutney.
3 – Pile on the grated cheese and squash the other slice on top.
4 – Place on the baking rack and air fry (180 degrees C) for 9-10 minutes, flipping it midway through.
